The role

G4S FM is actively recruiting for an Escort/Handy Person to join our small but committed maintenance team at HMP Parc.  The prospective candidate would preferably have some basic carpentry skills.  The role is initially for a 12 month fixed term period but may lead to a permanent position depending on the needs of the service.  The hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 5.00 pm with an unpaid lunch break of one hour for which a salary range of £19,000 to £20,000 pa is being offered.

Role Responsibility:

As directed, to assist with the contractor control process in escorting and controlling the contractor/visitors movements across the prison estate that falls within the Facilities Management contractual obligations. Working to complete all escort tasks in a timely manner within their respective target dates following all established procedures. To maintain cleanliness and order within the engineering stores area, liaising with engineering team and helpdesk administrators to ensure adequate levels of stock are maintained. To conduct regular stock-takes and maintain stock records. Assist the hard services team in a range of disciplines to maintain and repair assets, building fabric, services and utilities across the prison estate that is the responsibility of G4SFM.

  • Operate within G4SFM procedures to escort G4SFM contractors/visitors movements across the prison estate.
  • Carry out maintenance inspection and repairs to various assets and building fabric throughout the prison  estate, e.g. furniture, internal / external fixtures and fittings, grounds, access and car parking, etc. within their range of qualifications, levels of competence, training and experience as required and where necessary.
  • To complete clearly all associated paperwork required to meet the requirements of the laid out process.
  • Deal effectively and safely with contractor / visitor movements and activates, ensuring that site health & safety requirements are met at all times and that contractors work in a safe manner in accordance with their own company H&S policies.
  • To ensure that contractors adhere to the risk assessments and method statements for the work that they are carrying out.
  • To ensure that contractors carry out their work in a timely manner and to manage contractors whilst escorting to improve efficiency
  • Assisting in the development of contractor control procedure routines, processes, risk assessments, and records. 
  • Working with other craft qualified, semi-skilled and non-skilled maintenance staff if required in aspects of maintenance activities on a team work basis.
  • Security awareness within a prison environment in respect to key locking and tool control when escorting maintenance contractors within the prison estate.  
  • Working with engineering team, maintain cleanliness and tidiness of maintenance stores areas, ensuring that site H&S and COSHH procedures are adhered to.
  • To conduct regular stock takes of stores items and liaise with engineering and administration staff to order stock where required

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should have the ability to follow instructions, effective communication and customer care skills with good interpersonal skills, high standards of personal hygiene, ability to work independently and as part of a team experience, and must be reliable and committed to the role.

Desirable

  • Specialisms such as Carpentry within building facilities maintenance field.
  • BSC level 1/2 Health & Safety.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • Experience of building and facilities maintenance
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations
