Gordon Hurley, Director of Training

Gordon was born in Montreal, Quebec and when to school in British Columbia where he attended Kwantlen College (now Kwantlen Polytechnic University), completing several different programs. Gordon ultimately decided to  joined the Canadian Armed Forces, where he became a member of the Military Police.

In 1991, Gordon was part of Operation Desert Storm. As a member of the Military Police, he was part of a team of criminal investigators, and led and conducted community policing. Finally, towards the end of his military career, Gordon was part of the National Defence Headquarters and the Military Disciplinary System. Gordon left the Canadian military with the rank of Corporal. Gordon found that the organizational skills and accountability structure he learned while in military service transitioned very well into the private security industry.

Professionally, Gordon has been involved in the security industry for many years. In 1993, he started with a different  security company as a trainer, and was granted progressively more senior positions until he left 11 years later as the Manager of Recruitment and Training for the entire company.

In 2004, Gordon went to work for a start-up company that ran an air-ambulance fleet. He worked as the Head of Human Resources and Training, and designed the entire HR and Training program from the ground up.

In 2007, Gordon joined a major credit card and financial company, as International Training Manager for a specific division of the company. This required him to travel extensively in order to train other employees in products and services.

In 2011, Gordon joined G4S as a regional HR Manager for Eastern Canada. From there, Gordon quickly moved to other roles that granted him more responsibility, including becoming a National Manager for Training and Development and National Manager for Recruitment before reaching his current role.

Gordon was very interested in working for G4S even before the opportunity to join came about, because, as he told us, ”G4S is a very progressive company. They have been leading in the industry for many years. The training programs at G4S are second to none. Everyone in the organization has access to great tools to self-guide their career development, and to take their career as far as they want to.”
